Holland 3 – 4 USA

Host Holland was leading 3-1, but conceded goals in the 70’, 89’ and 90’ minutes, and instead of rejoicing a victory, watched Jurgen Klinsmann’s players celebrating on Holland’s expense.

June 5, 2015

As European football is officially coming to a close for summer all throughout, several national teams have been conducting their last artillery tests.  One of the most notable games took place tonight in Amsterdam, where the US National Team achieved a huge victory over Holland.

The Dutch side scored the first goal (27’) in Amsterdam ArenA, with Manchester United’s new acquisition – Memphis Depay serving a great ball to Klaas-Jan Huntelaar that flicks in a heard from 6 yards.  This, making it Huntelaar’s 40 international goal.

The USA came back with an answer 6 minutes later (33’) with Fabian Johnson assisting LA Galaxy’s Gyasi Zardes to score first international goal.

Holland 1 – 1 USA

The hosts came back from the dressing rooms in top form, and dealt a forceful opening after halftime.  4 minutes into the second half (49’), Huntelaar completed his second header goal of the match.  This time assisted by Paris Saint-Germain Gregory van der Wiel.

Holland 2 – 1 USA

4 minutes later (53’), Memphis Depay gets his own goal, appears to be more of a deflection from Huntelaar’s kick.

Holland 3 – 1 USA

As the US team seemed to be heading towards a point of no return, Michael Bradley goes on the attack, serves into the box for DeAndre Yedlin that in turn crosses to John Anthony Brooks who taps in a goal (70’) and brings the American side back into the game.

Holland 3 – 2 USA

From then on, everything seemed to be going downhill for Holland, which seemed to have lost all the power and tempo it had in the first 20 minutes of the second half.  A scattered midfield and dreadful, disorganized defense allowed Team USA not only to bounce back, but apply intense pressure and create impressive goal-scoring opportunities.

A USA team right-hand corner is cleared into 18-yard box, to find Danny Williams with a lot of free space to adjust position and fire a right-footed shot.  The kick appears to brush off the foot of one of one of Holland’s defenders, and lands into the net (88’).

Holland 3 – 3 USA

Just as the game can’t get more amazing, it does.  With receiving a cross ball right in the centre of the box, and kicks in a brilliant goal (90’).

Holland 3 – 4 USA

All in all an amazing night, of great football from both sides.  The turn of events provided some cliff-hanging moments, that were no less than astonishing to supporters of either side.

The message to take home tonight however, is that the fighting spirit of not to give up and keep fighting, at times when all seems lost; combined with great skill and tenacity – make the USA National Team a force to be reckoned with in world soccer.
