Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union take on 3rd division United Soccer League’s Rochester Rhinos.  Philadelphia were close to win their first piece of silverware in the U.S. Open Cup final in 2014, just before Western MLS rivals Seattle Sounders scored twice in overtime to win.  Philadelphia Union had mixed results in this current MLS 2015 season, where Rochester Rhinos have conceded only 4 goals, and have been undefeated in their 12 USL matches this season.

This I-70 Rivalry is generating a lot of interest mainly in light of the return of MLS Sporting Kansas City’s Chance Myers from a long time off due to an Achilles injury.  Another interesting Kansas player to watch is up-and-coming Hungarian Krisztian Nemeth, who is returning from U-20 international duty.  St. Louis FC are playing their 1st season at USL, with 3-3-5, and have already registered 2 U.S. Open Cup wins.

Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire have been humiliating with a 6-0 defeat in last year at the US Open Cup Semi Final by MLS Eastern Conference Seattle Sounders.  Things are not going well for Chicago in MLS 2015 season either, as they are second to last at the MLS Eastern Conference.  USL side Louisville City FC are coming in strong form, ranked 4th in the USL Eastern Conference, and having lost only 2 of their last 12 games this season (5-2-5).

Major League FC Dallas coming out of 5 away games, their last being a loss to MLS rival Seattle Sounders.  Dallas are ranked 5th in the MLS Western Conference, and are looking to further win to push them further up the chart.  Winning may not be as easy for Dallas, as they are facing USL’s Western Conference number 1: Oklahoma City Energy FC.  Oklahoma registered 7 wins out of 12 USL games this season (7-2-3), and look strong.

Real Salt Lake have been beaten from different directions recently.  This Major League Soccer team has been suffering from injuries to key players such as defenders Jamison Olave and Chris Schuler, International duty of Elias Vasquez, and more.  Similar it’s bigger sibling from MLS, Seattle Sounders 2 are a strong contender in the USL, sitting at 2nd spot in the USL Western Conference, with 7 wins in their last 13 games (7-4-2).

In last year’s 4th round US Open Cup, MLS San Jose Earthquakes won USL Sacramento Republic 2-1.  There has been intense rivalry between these two Californian sides since the start.  Sacramento’s Major League Soccer aspirations adds more fuel to the fire between these two sides.

This match between two Major League Soccer sides Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers should be a great one to watch.  Although Seattle are top of the MLS Western Conference, with 9 wins in their last 15 games (9-4-2), Portland Timbers are not too far behind, at 4th place a MLS West.
