Toronto FC vs. Columbus Crew SC – Match Preview

Saturday, Oct. 17th, 2:00 p.m. ET. BMO Field, Toronto.

Hosts Toronto FC are facing visitors Columbus Crew SC for the third time this season.  Although it is officially a meeting between the two teams, everyone is waiting for the real, ultimate faceoff between Major League Soccer’s two top scorers of this 2015 season – Toronto’s Sebastian Giovinco and Columbus’s Kei Kamara.

Both are in the running for the MLS Golden Boot for most goals scored this season, tied at 22 season goals each.

Toronto FC are ranked second in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference with 49 points (15-13-4).

Toronto have already clinched their first-ever MLS playoff position, winning at home the New York Red Bulls 2-1 this past Wednesday.  They are coming on the back of a four-game winning streak.

Visitors Columbus Crew SC are ranked fifth in the MLS East (13-11-8) and are tied with New England Revolution at 47 points.  With two more games remaining in the regular MLS season, Columbus are still well in the playoff race.

The Crew are coming on the back of two 2-1 losses, at home to Portland Timbers and more recently at New York Red Bulls on Saturday, October 3rd.

The teams already met for two times this Major League Soccer season, both in Columbus.  On March 14th, Columbus won 2-0, and the second meeting in July 27th ended in a 3-3 draw.
