Seattle Sounders vs. LA Galaxy – Game Recap
Yet again in this past Major League Soccer weekend, similar to D.C. United’s winning goal against NYCFC, the last goal of the game was scored in the last seconds of the game, way past stoppage time, when all seems to be done and dusted.
In the last games of this MLS season, when every point is crucial for a playoff position, teams seem to fight until literally the last second on the pitch. This provides fans of all sides of cliff-hanging moments, which is what Major League Soccer is all about.
Although the goals were far between, both MLS Western Conference sides gave a great soccer spectacle, with many opportunities manufactured, yet not all materializing.
Starting from the 6th minute with Sounders’ Clint Dempsey took a shot on goal from an Obafemi Martins assist, to be denied by Galaxy keeper Donovan Ricketts. LA came close on the 27th minute with Steven Gerrard taking a shot in front of a wide-open goal, but went high above the cross bar.
A crucial error by Seattle’s Zach Scott who back passed the ball straight into LA’s Captain Robbie Keane path. Keane took a shot from the penalty spot and scored the first point of the match (36’).
Seattle Sounders 0 – 1 LA Galaxy
Seattle looked dangerous at times, with a shot from the left to the LA goal on the 48th minute that was saved again by Ricketts and cleared by the team. Then again coming close on the other side, Gerrard came close to score an insurance for the Galaxy on the 64th minute, but hit the post and was declined by the woodwork.
Seattle Sounders did come close to scoring several times right before, and also after stoppage time, until a corner kick found Sounder’s Chad Barrett who scored from close range, giving the hosts the equalizer (92’+3’).
Seattle Sounders 1 – 1 LA Galaxy
The hosts dominated the game in every aspect, with 63% possession, 80% passing accuracy (vs. LA’s 72%), and 12 shots of which 6 on target (vs. LA’s 10 shots with 3 on target).
Both teams go into a bye week, with both returning to play on Sunday, Oct. 18th, where Seattle Sounders head to Houston Dynamo, and LA host at home the Portland Timbers.
