Houston Dynamo vs. Real Salt Lake – Game Recap

Real Salt Lake win at Houston, marking a fourth consecutive win over the Dynamos.  Both teams are now tied at 35 points at the bottom half of the MLS Western Conference, outside of the playoff zone.

A first half nearly ended goalless, until Real’s Javier Morales took advantage of confusion within the Houston’s goal box that followed a save by Dynamo’s keeper Tyler Deric, and scored the first point of the match from a close range (45’+2’).

Shortly into the second half, Salt Lake’s Devon Sandoval found yet another one of Deric’s deflected saves, and doubled Real’s lead (51’).

Houston Dynamo 0 – 2 Real Salt Lake

Houston finally did manage to score, when Real’s John Stertzer’s handball inside Salt Lake’s penalty box awarded the hosts with a penalty kick.

Brad David converted it to a goal with a powerful shot to the upper-left corner (65’).

Houston Dynamo 1 – 2 Real Salt Lake

A few minutes later, Real’s Javier Morales sent a ball to Juan Manuel Martinez who was unmarked in the box and scored Salt Lake’s insurance goal from a narrow-right angel (68’).

Houston Dynamo 1 – 3 Real Salt Lake

 

Houston are travelling to play Philadelphia Union next Sunday, while Real Salt Lake travel to El Salvador for a mid-week CONCACAF match, and return to host LA Galaxy next Saturday.
