Portland Timbers vs. Houston Dynamo – Game Preview

August 21, 2015

Providence Park, Portland, 11:00 p.m. ET

Hosts Portland Timers meet visitors Huston Dynamo for the third time this 2015 MLS season.  The sides have not met in two months, when Portland won Houston 2-0 at Providence Park in June.  Both teams are coming to tonight’s match with ambitions to secure their place in the playoffs.

Portland are now 4th in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference, with 39 point, only 4 points away from conference leaders LA Galaxy.  Huston Dynamo is ranked 8th, with 31 points.  Still, Portland Timbers are second to last in goals scored in the Conference this MLS 2015 season (26), compared to Houston’s 30 goals.

The Timbers are coming off two wins, the last being a 1-0 over Real Salt Lake, and Dynamo coming from a 2-0 loss to New England Revolution away.

Statistics for tonight’s match are definitely on Portland’s side, with the Timbers losing this MLS season only 1 game at home.  Moreover, the hosts have won 6 out of their last 7 home games, and have not lost any of the past 8 home matches.  Houston Dynamo on the other hand, had won only 2 road games all year.

In the two times the sides met this year, each registered one home win.  Portland won 2-0 at home in June, following a 3-1 road loss to Houston in May.

Huston Dynamo’s midfielder Brad Davis continues to be an influential player on the pitch.  The US International produced over the last 4 games 2 assists, 1 goal and 8 shots.  He will be faced by Portland’s strong defensive player Nat Borches, who can produce at times dangerous attacks as well.
