FC Dallas vs. Vancouver Whitecaps – Game Preview

Wednesday, Oct. 14th, 9:00 p.m. Toyota Stadium, Frisco, TX

The third meeting this season between two teams sitting at the top of the MLS Western Conference. Both sides already secured a position for the 2015 Major League Soccer playoffs, but intense rivalry still stands between the two, as some unfinished business of the regular season still needs to be settled.

This will be the second of two back-to-back meetings between the sides, with a meeting at Vancouver Whitecaps last Wednesday, September 7th ending at a goalless tie.

Hosts FC Dallas sit at the top of the MLS Western Conference (15-10-6) and are tied at 51 points with second-placed LA Galaxy.

Prior to facing Vancouver, Dallas’s 4-1 home victory over Texan rival Houston Dynamo on Sunday, October 4th ended a streak of two away-losses: 3-1 to Sporting Kansas City and 3-2 to LA Galaxy.  So, a game against strong side such as Vancouver with only a point’s difference doesn’t give Dallas a reason to relax.

Vancouver Whitecaps are ranked third in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference (15-12-5) and with 50 points are trailing only 1 point behind the first and second spots.

Vancouver’s last win was on Wednesday, September 9th against Colorado Rapids at home (2-0).  Since then, the Whitecaps have been on a 4-game winless streak, losing 3-0 to Seattle Sounders at home, 2-1 to NYCFC at home and then drawing 1-1 with San Jose Earthquakes and 0-0 with FC Dallas, home and away respectively.

As said, this is the third time the sides meet this MLS season, with the first meeting being a 1-0 home win for Vancouver on Saturday, August 22nd.
