Columbus Crew vs. NYFC – Game Preview

August 19, 2015

Week 25 in the MLS 2015 Regular Season is underway, with the first match tonight.  Not only is this the first match of week 25, but actually the first time ever for these two sides to meet.

Columbus Crew Soccer Club will host Major League Soccer expansion side New Your City Football Club tonight at Mapfre Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET.  The two MLS teams will meet again in 10 days’ time, at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, August 29th.

7 points currently separate between hosts Columbus Crew, who are ranked 3rd in the MLS Eastern Conference, with 34 points (9-8-7); and visitors NYCFC rakned 8th in the Eastern Conference with 27 points (7-11-6).  Although everything is still possible, Columbus are sitting comfortably at 3rd, vs. New York that still needs to work hard to secure a place in the playoffs for the club’s inaugural MLS season.

Both sides however are coming in strong after wins, and are hoping to build on the momentum.  The Crew registered a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids in their last game, and NYCFC marked an impressive 3-1 victory over the strong, MLS Eastern Conference leader D.C. United.

Crew’s Kei Kamara currently tops the Major League Soccer Golden Boot standings with 17 goals this MLS season, trailing close behind with 16 goals is Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco.  Not too far behind, is New York’s David Villa, who scored his 14th goal of the 2015 MLS season in the last winning game against D.C. United.

New York’s Midfielder Frank Lampard will be travelling with the team to Columbus tonight, and to LA on Sunday for the match against the LA Galaxy.  But his appearance is still questionable due to quad injury that denied him from appearing in the team’s last match against D.C. United.
