Colorado Rapids vs. Huston Dynamo – Game Preview

August 26, 2015, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Commerce City, Colorado, 9:00 p.m. ET

This match tonight is a meeting between two MLS sides that have been having their fair share of struggles lately.  The fact that sides that are not in a comfortable position towards the end of the season actually has the potential of making things interesting tonight.  As both teams are coming to the pitch hungry, and have a lot to prove.

Hosts Colorado Rapids sit at the very bottom of Major League Soccer’s Western Conference with 27 points (6-9-9) and are 11 points away from a playoff position.  The Rapids are likely to miss the MLS playoffs for the third time in four years.  With only 21 goals scored this season, the Rapids have the lowest scoring record in the MLS this season.

Colorado put their three-game losing streak behind them with a 1-0 win at Chicago Fire last Saturday.

Visitors Houston Dynamo are ranked eighth in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference with 32 points (8-9-8) and are three points away from the last playoff position, so post-season is still in reach for Houston.  The Dynamo are continuing their three-game road stint, and last drew 2-2 at Portland Timbers this past Friday.

The sides are meeting for the second time this MLS 2015 season, when the last meeting ending in a goalless tie at Huston in March.

And finally to the statistics that make things all the more interesting: The last time Colorado Rapids lost to Houston Dynamo in an MLS league game was 2009 (1-0).  The Dynamos have not won at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park since 2008.
